Iota Lambda Chapter 2002-2003

Iota Lambda is the SAI chapter at the University of Missouri-Columbia, located in Columbia, Missouri. We are a member of the province Pi B. With a new year, we have many new ideas, and this website is just the beginning. The new Executive Board of Iota Lambda wants to increase information availability and accuracy; hence, we have created a website that is a reliable source.
Scholarship Opportunity:

With this site, we hope to present up-to-date activies and ideas as well as recieve feed-back from our chapter members and those interested in joining. Please feel free to use the navigation bar on the left or bottom of each page to take a look around.

Iota Lambda Spring Musicale 2004!

Iota Lambda Sisters directly before the Spring 2004 Musicale

On Sunday May 4th, 2004 at 3:30pm, Iota Lambda held a spring musicale featuring performances by many of the talented members. With organization by primarily three sisters, we were able to work together to create a set of performances to the Mizzou School of Music, students, and Columbia community. In addition, we had a beautiful array of food and beverages in which we invited the members and audience to partake after the event. A special thanks goes out to Samantha Smith for compiling all the required paper work to have our musicale on the MU School of Music events calendar, as well as making available recital credit, providing an outstanding dozen roses, and much more. Also, thank-you to Elizabeth enjoying the food from the reception following the musicale Amanda Pence for putting her creative and baking talents to the test with the wonderful after-performance reception. Last but not least, we would like to thank Alisha Williams for taking charge of arranging the musicale, recruiting performers, designing the program, and much more. Visit our photo portion of this site to see photographs of the musicale in action!

What have we been up to?

Professor Melinda Lein

A new semester just began, and Iota Lambda is busy as usual, despite poor weather in the general Mizzou area. First, we have a new advisor, Professor Melinda Lein, who you can read about in our next newsletter thanks to Miss Samantha Smith and her interviews. In addition, officer elections are just around the corner! To see all the events planned for the winter 2003 semester, visit our calendar.

What happened last semester?

Before the Car Wash

Last semester, fall 2003, we held a car wash to help raise money to bring Xiang Gao, a violinist, to Mizzou. On September 26th, he performed a Bruch Violin Concerto with our Philharmonic Orchestra and gave master classes for music students due to donations from Iota Lambda.

In addition, we provided service work to our community. Also during the weekend of September 26th, we volunteered time to help our community in the Festival of the Arts. This festival is the culmination of all the artforms presented to the public for free Fall 2003 Pledge Class of charge in Columbia, MO. This years twelfth annual Festival of the Arts included activites from storytelling, interactive theatre, puppetry and music to a magnetic poetry wall to drama and dance.

Iota Lambda initiated the Fall 2003 pledge class, deaming them the name "Ta Ta Four Now". The class has four dedicated members: Roberta Franca, Melanie J. Young, Megan Rist and Stacey Hopkins. Also, we initiated a new patroness, Janet McCaskill. For this semester, VP Membership, Chelsey Soo, is planning Truman SAIs at FAB numerous activities to attract interested members and to teach them the meaning and ways of Sigma Alpha Iota. For more information on mit activities, visit our How to Join section.

Finally, the SAI girls from Truman State visited our chapter for a formal meeting. First, we socialized at a before meeting dinner, followed by lining up to enter the meeting, and Truman SAIs finished it off with a Rose Queen presentation demonstrating love and dedication to SAI and your sisters!
