Discussion began with plans for those attending the 2009 National NORML Conference in San Fransisco from Thursday, September 24, 2009 through Sunday, September 27, 2009. Kellie stated that the hotel room is already reserved. Based on the assumption that four to five people will be sharing the room, each guest will have to pay between $100 to $120 upon check out for their portion of the room. As of the writing of these minutes, and up until Monday, August 31, registration costs $100 for students and $150 for non-students for the full, two-day conference on Friday the 25th of September and Saturday the 26th of September. An optional pass for Thursday, the Special Medical Cannabis Day, is available for $100 to students and $125 for non-students. The NORML Fundraiser, which occurs Saturday night, costs $50 for students and $100 for non-students. Scott also mentioned that an optional $35 can be paid for conference materials upon your registration. Plane tickets have not yet, but need to be reserved. According to Seans research, roundtrip airfare departing from Kansas City, Missouri on Thursday, September 24 to San Francisco, California and returning on Monday, September 21 will cost $240.40. Kellie stated that she was going to fly on Delta Airlines, but was using frequent flier miles from her mom and therefore did not know the cost of flights on that airline. It was the general consensus of the group that those who plan on attending should at least be registered for the conference by August 31 so that we have a general idea of how many people will be attending and work on this years travel budget can begin. Also, once we know how many people plan on attending, then we can figure out the specific amount each person will have to pay for their portion of the hotel room. Flight arrangement details will be discussed, and hopefully finalized at the next core member meeting. After discussion of the National NORML conference, the meeting turned towards plan for the first week of school. It was suggested that we show a movie on the first Wednesday of school, August 26 at 7:00 p.m., before we have our first real meeting on Wednesday, September 9, the date of Mizzou Activities Mart. Sean expressed his confusion over the necessity of two meetings, but after some debate, it was decided that MU NORML would host a movie night Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. and screen Reefer Madness: The Musical. It was also discussed that we could/should hand out popcorn and beverages at the movie for those who chose to attend to enjoy. It was noted that Middlebush Auditorium was not reserved for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, but no official room reservation was made. Sean brought up the idea of creating a hand-out sized calendar (one-quarter page sized) to distribute to attendees of the first few meetings. There was general agreement among those present that that would be a good idea. He agreed to begin work on creating one. Activities Mart is being held in Lowry Mall on September 9, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Both NORML and SSDP need to register for that event. Current Presidents (as listed with the ORG), Kellie and Evan Groll, need to watch their inboxes for a notice of Activities Mart registration. Furthermore, it needs to be discussed at the next core member meeting who has what times available to volunteer to work at those two tables. Kellie brought up the fact that the two groups merchandise is being kept in several different locations and should be consolidated. Also, she mentioned that an inventory of the items we currently have in our possession should be taken so that we can reorder and restock on supplies that we need. Sean suggested that anybody in possession of either groups items should bring them to the next core member meeting so that an inventory can be taken. Sean reintroduced the idea of not holding meetings every week, but rather every other week. The general consensus of the group was that that would be a good idea. Scott fleshed out the idea when he recommended that we have two regular, open to everybody meetings each month, one core member meeting and one movie or fun meeting each month. This idea received robust support and it was agreed that we will schedule meetings in the aforementioned style as described by Scott for at least this semester. Joe and Addie mentioned that they had found out how to get fliers in all the dorm mailboxes. Way to go! Nick stated that he had the remaining funds for both organizations in the form of two checks. However, he thinks he left them back in St. Louis. He was asked to find out the definite location of those checks. If they are in St. Louis, when can he go get them and how much money is written on each check? Scott mentioned that the ORG training sessions will be approaching soon. All new officers must attend these training sessions to remain in good standing with the ORG. No budget requests of any kind can be made until all new officers attend an ORG training session. Again, Kellie and Evan should be alert for notifications from the ORG about new officer training dates. Next, discussion turned to talk about the upcoming Cannabis Revival on Saturday, September 12, 2009 in Joplin, Missouri. Kellie, Sean, Joe and Addie expressed an interest in going. Is anybody else interested in attending? Sean had checked with Kelly Maddy, organizer of the event, about the possibility of sleeping on the floor or couches of Joplin NORML/SSDP supporters instead of paying for a hotel. Kelly stated that he did not think that it would be a problem finding places for us to sleep. Brandon reported that he finally had official access to the MU NORML website. Sean asked him if he would mind be appointed to officially maintain the website for this semester. Brandon tentatively agreed, but few details were discussed. It was agreed that details of the upkeep could be finalized at the next core meeting. Scott brought up the point that there are several e-mail additions lists floating around. Sean confirmed that he indeed had some as well. Does anybody else have e-mail additions lists? If so, it was decided, bring them to the next core member meeting so they can be grouped together and someone can be assigned the task of entering them into our listserve. Scott also mentioned that Marc Emery is being extradited to the United States very soon. He proposed the idea of a rally or some other event to show MU NORMLs support for his actions and disdain for the actions of Canadas government in allowing him to be extradited. Sean suggested that Scott provide more details at the next core member meeting. Brandon and Scott both expressed their support for a highway cleanup to take place soon on our mile stretch in Interstate 70. It was agreed that all highway cleanups should end with pizza and beer at Gumbys as an incentive for people to participate. A date for the next cleanup will be determined at the next core member meeting, and then announced at the first meeting on September 9, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the hopes of getting many new group members to attend the cleanup. Sean asked whether there were any shows at the Blue Note and/or Mojos coming up soon that we can table at. No shows were decided on at the meeting due to time constraints. It was agreed that shows could be looked at during the next core member meeting. Plans for our state conference were only very briefly discussed. The date tentatively decided on by members of Missouri NORML is November 7, 2009. Scott and Sean have compiled a list of potential speakers which can be discussed at the next core member meeting. This led naturally to the question of when the next honorarium requests are due. Kelli, the president of NORML still listed with the ORG, stated that she can find that information out. Sean and Scott then briefly discussed the plans for the Missouri Medical Marijuana Initiative. The initial step it conduct a poll of 600 likely voters. The polling company is going to charge us (Missouri NORML) $5,000 for the poll. Therefore, Sean explained, we needed to do some serious fundraising soon. The following is a list of ideas proposed: Tie-dye shirt day: set up a table or area in Speakers Circle where students can tie-dye their own NORML shirt. Nick said he would get in contact with the woman who made our Cannabis/Cardinals shirts to see how quickly she could produce plain white t-shirts with just our paw print/pot leaf logo and how much they would cost. Buttons: Scott is in possession of the NORML/SSDP button maker. Cassie and Kellie both expressed interest in making new buttons for both organizations. Shows at Mojos: Sean and Kellie both stated that they know some bands that would be willing to play free shows for NORML/SSDP. Scott has the contact information for the gentleman responsible for the scheduling of shows. He agreed to contact him in hopes of scheduling a show for the near future. Cardinals/Cannabis shirts: Nick stated that he would contact the woman responsible for making our Cardinals/Cannabis shirts and see when we could order more. Roller rink party: Nick proposed a roller rink party. There was not universal agreement among those present that it would be a good fundraising opportunity because of the costs involved. House party: Kellie and others suggested a house party. Once we secure a good house (location and size) this idea should be moved on immediately. Kellie said she would work on securing a house. Lee St. Deli: Nate mentioned the possibility of having a fundraising show at Lee St. Deli. He was asked to pursue the idea. Poker night: someone suggested a poker night/tournament. Who wants to try and organize that event? Disc golf tournament: Brandon, Nick and Nate talked about the possibility of a disc golf tournament. Nick even mentioned that a company will print a logo of your choice on their discs and you can order in bulk. The three of them were asked to pursue that idea. After discussion of those fundraising ideas, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting of the core members of MU NORML/SSDP will take place at Scotts house on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 9:00 p.m. PAGE PAGE 1 34ai j k 1 2 ^####$%%%&&L+./n/$1111111111111ÿÿ hhV&0JjhhV&0JUhjjhjUhhV&hhV&5 hhV&5hhV&h %h=6hSh-hLhG hs*6hs*h hRO hRO H*hRO hwD h}5 h 5 hwD5847`ak l 2 3 )*gdwD$a$gdwD11 O"P"##%%&&\(]()) ++,q--..n//001gdhV& & Fgd % & Fgd=6gdwD11111111111111111gdhV& &`#$gdj11111111111111hhV&hhV&5hhV&0JmHnHuhjhhV& hhV&0JjhhV&0JU ,1h/ =!"#$% @@@ NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH DA@D Default Paragraph FontRiR Table Normal4 l4a (k@(No ListF%@F UEnvelope Return CJ^JaJd$@d ?Envelope Address!@ &+D/^@ ^Jh4 @4 hV&Footer !.)@!. hV& Page Number)>47`akl23 )*OP\ ] !! ##$q%-&&n''(())))))))))))))))0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 000@0000@00000000000000@010000@0@00 000 $$$'11111 '!!8@0( B S ?#rq#rok#r\pk#rlF#r$#r\#rnk#r7g#rok#r$#r#r\ok#r#r$#rok#r!#rpk#r+#rLR#r$8g#r2g#r=g}}JJ))&&) QQ//&&) :*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsStreetB*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagscountry-region;*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsaddress9*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsState8*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsCity9*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsplace Ć# ?CKVci DM}##))))))))))))))))467_ 3$+))))))))))))))333333q%%-&''))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))>Qi1JRx88^8`o() ^`hH.
