In just three seasons, Triefenbach turned around a virtual non-existant VTU diving program. He led 28 divers to top-eight conference finishes. He also led two divers to Atlantic 10 records and helped advance the first diver in VTA history to the NCAA Zone Diving Meet.
Before Virginia Tech, Triefenbach served as an assistant diving coach at his alma mater, Lousiana State. Besides being a five-time All-American, he was a two-time Southeast Conference champion and placed fifth at the Olympic Festival in St. Louis in 1995. As a junior at LSU, Triefenbach placed third on the 10-meter board at the NCAA Championships.
Triefenbach is no stranger to Missouri. A native of Bridgeton, Mo. located just outside of St. Louis, he has been involved with the Clayton Diving Alliance doing clinics for two years, something that he will continue as the diving coach at Missouri.
At Mizzou, Triefenbach inherits a group of divers that made great progress last season. Four Tigers (two men and two women) advanced to the finals at the Big 12 Championships with three qualifying for the NCAA Zone Meet.
Triefenbach and his wife Lisa reside in Columbia.
