Competition within the club is reflected in our Chess Ladder.
- Players are able to challenge players above them on the ladder.
- The outcome is determined by a game at a time limit of G/60. Other time limits are acceptable if mutually agreed
upon, but in no case shorter than G/30. Colors are randomly selected.
- Games may be played at any time or place acceptable to both players.
- If the challenger wins, he or she moves to the ladder rung just above the loser. In event of a draw the challenger
moves to a rung just below that of his/her opponent.
- A losing player must play at least one other ladder member before challenging for a re-match of an earlier
game.
- The higher-ranked player is expected to accept all challenges, but no player is required to play more often
than two games in a month.
- The lower-ranked player is responsible for reporting the game result to the tournament
director. Results will be applied to the ladder in the order that they are reported.
Unrated players entering after the initial ladder is formed will be placed at the bottom of the ladder unless
their playing strength is known to the tournament director; such players will be inserted in the ladder according
to their estimated playing strength. Rated players entering after the initial ladder is formed will be placed on
a rung just below the player with the next-higher USCF rating.
