Constitution
 Mizzou Student Veterans Association
Written: April 4, 2006

Article I – Name
The name of this organization shall be the Mizzou Student Veterans Association.

Article II – Purpose
The purpose of our organization shall be to provide aid to the veteran students of the University of Missouri, by raising awareness and providing social services to both veteran students and the community.

Article III – Compliance Clause
We agree to abide regulations described in the M-Book, all University policies, in addition to all federal, state, and local laws.

Article IV – Non-Discrimination
This organization shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or status as a disabled veteran or veteran of the Vietnam era.

Article V – Membership
Membership shall be held in three tiers:

  1. Full Membership:
    1. Right to vote in all matters of the organization.
    2. Right to hold office upon election.
    3. Admittance to all organizational functions.
    4. Must be a MU student, or MU ROTC (directly drawing benefits from Dept. of Veterans Affairs)

  2. Associate Member:
    1. Privilege to vote on matters other than election of Executive Board.
    2.  Admittance to all organizational functions.
    3. Visiting veteran students.
    4. MU ROTC (outside of aforementioned)

  3. Honorary Member:
    1. Family Members of veterans.
    2. Local supporters.
    3. MU faculty and staff.
    4. Supporting businesses.
    5. Veterans and ROTC from neighboring colleges.

Article VI – Election of Officers
The following officers shall be elected on a yearly basis:  President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
An election shall be scheduled in April of each year to elect new officers by majority vote. Incumbent officers shall have the option to run for re-election.
Officers must have at least 1 full academic year left at the University of Missouri.
Officers must have a 2.2 GPA or above, and be registered for at least 12.0 credit hours through the University of Missouri.

Officers will be elected by a Two Thirds majority vote of members present.
Newly elected officers should assume office at the beginning of the fall semester following the meeting in which they are elected.

Article VII – Executive Board
All elected officers shall serve on the executive board.
The Executive Boards duties shall be:

  1. Management and control of all aspects of the organization.
  2. Creation of committees, to include powers and duties.
  3. To approve final budget.
  4. To hold at least 3 general meetings during the regularly schedules semester.
  5. Responsible for running of elections.

The duties of each officer shall be

The President:

  1. Will be the Chair at all general and executive meetings.
  2. Will be the organizations representative at University of Missouri meetings and activities.
  3. Shall take any action to support the mission of this organization.
  4. Will direct and coordinate all meetings general and executive.

The Vice President:

  1. Shall obtain chair in absence of The President.
  2. Will be responsible for coordination and execution of elections.
  3. Will be responsible for coordination and assignment of all committees.

The Secretary:

  1. Will be responsible for maintaining current membership list.
  2. Will provide notice of all meetings general and executive.
  3. Will keep minutes of all meetings general and executive.

The Treasurer:

  1. Will maintain accurate and current record of the organizations financial status and activities.
  2. Will collect all applicable fees and funds for organization.

Article VIII – Removal of Officers
Any member may make a motion for the removal of any officer providing that evidence is presented to support the removal. Grounds for removal include the inadequate fulfillment of duties or the violation of regulations described in the M-Book, University policies, or any federal, state, or local laws.

A two-thirds vote by the present membership is needed to remove an officer. Two-thirds of the active members should be present at the time of voting.
An election for a new officer should be conducted at the next scheduled business meeting.

Article IX – Advisor
The Executive Board shall nominate one faculty or staff member (at least 75% FTE) to serve as advisor.
The active membership shall vote on accepting the advisor with a simple majority needed for acceptance.
Two-thirds of the active members should be present at the time of voting.

Article X – Amendments to the Constitution
A. Any member of the organization may present amendments the Constitution at any regularly scheduled business meeting. After reading the current Constitution along with the proposed change, the change will be voted on. A four-fifths majority is necessary to pass the amendment. Two-thirds of the active membership should be present at the time of voting.

B. Amendments to the Constitution must be submitted to and approved by the Coordinator for Student Organizations before they become effective.
