“Truly in the heart there is a void that cannot be removed except with the company of Allah. And in it there is a sadness that cannot be removed except with the happiness of knowing Allah and being true to Him. And in it there is an emptiness that cannot be filled except with love for Him and by turning to Him and always remembering Him. And if a person were given all of the world and what is in it, it would not fill this emptiness.” - Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyya

IMPORTANT: There was a typo in the email Nabihah Maqbool sent out to everyone and that was posted below. The Fast-a-thon will, inshAllah, be on the 17th of September and NOT on the 10th September. The mistake has been corrected in the post below and the calendar as well to avoid any confusion.

Some other stuff:
- There is iftar at the Masjid (ICCM) every day for the whole month of Ramadan. Please come!
- Isha and Taraweeh start at 9:15 pm and end at 11:15 pm. The Masjid invited a scholar from Egypt, Abul Hasan, to spend the month in Columbia and he will be leading the prayers.
- After Taraweeh, there will be question/answer sessions. Questions can be presented directly or written down and put in a box in the prayer area.
- Every day after Fajr, Shaykh Abul Hasan has a Qur'an gathering at the Masjid. It includes reading and explanation.

The executive board has been meeting over the summer to sort things out for the new semester. Most responsibilities have been divided and plans are starting to form for next year. The board is also reviewing the constitution to update and correct it.
Ramadan will be coming early this year; in the second week of class, right after the annual ISNA convention. The Masjid will have iftar most days like they do every year. The community is also trying to bring a Qari and Aalim from Egypt for Ramadan. I will post more information as I know about it.
Today is the 15th of Rajab of the Hijri calendar and the next month will be Shabaan and after that Ramadan. The Prophet (PBUH), when he saw the moon of Rajab, would say:
"O Allah, bless in Rajab and Sha'ban and let us reach Ramadan (i.e. prolong our life till Ramadan so that we may benefit from it)". In Arabic,
"Allahuma Bariklana fee Rajab wa Sha'ban, wa Balighna Ramadan".
Allah bless all of us in Rajab and Sha'ban and let us reach Ramadan. Ameen.

Its finally done! The above design features (logo + phrase) took me around two hours of dedicated work to do. Looks very very pleasing I should say. I was tempted to put in a calligraphic Bismillah somewhere but resisted. Let me know what you think of the website.

July 05, 2008

As promised, the MSO website is almost 100% complete now. The Calendar is up and is flagged to be updated regularly. The Photographs are up and running and if you have any pictures, please let me know, so I can put them up. Two sections need help: the History of MSO @Mizzou and Islam sections, if you can contribute to either, please let me know. The only thing wanting is the logo at the top of the website, which I will try to finish within the next week.
MSO president, Dr. Zaza, volunteered to help with the Arabic version of the website, so that has been taken care of.
The brothers have a meeting time and place every week: every Wednesday after Maghreb at the Masjid (at Dr. Muraywid's dinner). That is all for now.
