LBC History

Formed by the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in 1968, the Legion of Black Collegians serves as the black voice here on the Columbia campus of the University of Missouri. LBC is the official black student government at Mizzou.
The Legion currently has four standing committees:
Communications, Activities, Finance and Political. LBC plans, funds and executes programs and activities to enhance the experience that African-American students will have at Mizzou.
LBC was organized with the intent to give African-American students as voice in student government. “The group acts as a social and political organization to promote the African-American experience. Among its activities are fashion shows, parties and campaigns to eliminate racial inequalities on campus” (UM Archives). Since its beginnings the Legion has stood behind its purpose and mission to help African Americans on the UM Campus.
