Philanthropy & Service

Gamma Phi Beta, International has a long history of outstanding philanthropic and community service. Although not founded as a philanthropic organization, giving back to the community is an important part of our charter. As an organization committed to women, we envision a community in which every girl and woman has the resiliency necessary to advance her own life and the lives of others. Our philanthropic activities aim to provide experiences and resources that build spiritual, mental and social resiliency in girls. The Alpha Delta collegiate chapter of Gamma Phi Beta's local philanthropy is a soccer tournament, which benefits Campfire, USA and Huntington Disease Society of America.

Our beneficiaries again are Campfire, USA and Huntington Disease Society of America (HDSA). Campfire, USA is our national philanthropy that all Gamma Phi Chapters benefit. Recently we added HDSA as one of our beneficiaries. Huntington's is a genetic disease that affects a member of our chapter and her family. Helping a sister in our house puts this philanthropy even closer to our hearts. This philanthropy is a great way to help our community and our sisters!

Not only do we host our own philanthropic event, but we support other Greek letter organizations as well. The women of the Alpha Delta chapter of Gamma Phi Beta participated in the philanthropic events of the following organizations this past year:

Giving Back to the Community

An important value of the members of Gamma Phi is community service-- the women of the Alpha Delta Chapter have demonstrated their commitment to this value through a variety of ways above and beyond the events listed above. Our members have supported:

  • Helping put on a carnival for local school children at Paxton Keeley Elementary
  • Working a booth for a Special Olympics event
  • House that Greeks Built - a community wide project through Habitat for Humanity aimed at building houses for low income families.
  • Books for East Asia - A book drive that donates books to build libraries in Fitiuja.
  • Central Missouri Food Bank - Donates food to low income families and homeless shelters.
  • American Red Cross - "Love, it's in your Blood" Campaign
  • Breast Cancer Awareness - Race for the Cure
  • Tsunami Relief Fund 2006
  • Camp Fire USA

Helpful Hands: Gamma Phis Whose Service is Noteworthy

We are very proud of the service of our individual members, particularly the work of seven women to assist in the relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina. Over spring break 2006, a group of 115 MU students traveled to New Orleans to assist in the rebuilding efforts. Gamma Phi member Jamie Haefele was one of the leaders of the trip, and she was joined by her sisters Brittany Polk, Marissa Cilufo, Jennifer Bowles, Kristen Wacker, Ellie Mills, and Meghan DeNoyer. Through their efforts, 18 homes were rebuilt.
