Keynote Speaker: Renay Scales, PhDDr. Scales has held various posts in corporate and higher education organizations for the last 25 years. Her responsibilities have primarily been in the areas of Human Resources, Corporate Training, and Labor Relations; Diversity and Equal Opportunity; and Medical Administration. She has also been a faculty member at two colleges, teaching Intro to Management, Human Resources Management, Organizational Behavior, and Marketing and Management. Her research areas are ethics in teaching and workforce diversity. Dr. Scales has made numerous presentations on sexual harassment, employment law, employing persons with disabilities, building alliances between white women and women of color, conflict resolution, welcoming diversity, effectively leading in a global society, gender and communication, racism and health disparities and other topics. She is currently employed as the Assistant Vice President of Human Resources and Diversity at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, the last thirteen years, Dr. Scales has been affiliated with the National Coalition Building Institute, an international leadership development organization based out of Washington, D.C. She has led Black Caucus work and Women’s Caucus work internationally, and led NCBI teams in Texas and Pennsylvania. She currently serves as the Regional Coordinator of Campus Programs for Pennsylvania and sits on the international board. The University of North Texas, the campus where her doctoral work was completed, has recently recognized her with a “Barrier Breaker” award during their Brown v. Board of Education Program and she has been a recipient of the MLK Civil Leadership Award at Slippery Rock University. Scales was also honored as an “outstanding black achiever” by the Black Opinion magazine in 2004, and received a “Woman of Distinction” award at Slippery Rock University by the Women’s Studies Program. |
