MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of the Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS) is to provide under-represented pre-health students with knowledge, skills and experiences that are both prerequisite and concomitant to professional participation in the health care industry. Through the development and augmentation of regional associate chapter programming, it shall strive to enhance recruitment of under-represented students into health care; enrich the academic and professional development of these students; and produce competitive candidates for professional health related programs. This affiliation endeavors to increase the matriculation of these undergraduate members into such programs, with emphasis on medicine, nursing, dentistry and pharmacy.

WHAT IS MAPS?

Established in 1964 by Howard University College of Medicine students and Meharry Medical College students, the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) is the nation’s oldest and largest student organization for students of color and minority communities. Active membership includes approximately 5,000 medical students, pre-medical students, and health care professionals nationwide. The SNMA is dedicated to serving and improving the health and education of members of underserved communities. In addition, SNMA is committed to assisting students of color in attending admission and successful matriculation at the nation’s medical schools
